Removed water pump yesterday to prep for install today, was waiting for o-rings and new bolts to show up. When I removed the water pump, a rusty discovery inside the heater core coolant pipe and water pump mating surface showed up, plus some stripped threads on the left most bolt (one holding the hard line in place). I didn't realize morons still add regular water into the cooling system, plus don't flush coolant regularly. I ended up scraping the rust inside the pipe with a tooth brush, then flushed it out with a vacuum, and removed rusty coating with some Bon Ami paste on my finger plus a green scouring pad.

I plan on running Thermocure thru the system later on to flush any remaining rust flakes out. For the stripped threads, I got a longer bolt, there is enough room in there for it. This deferred maintenance is almost over.

Changed the diff fluid, found a little bit of metal on the magnetic drain plug. We will see, but most likely looking at differential rebuild

Did you DIY wrap the entire car? Looks like a pretty good match to LSB

Once I had a groove from the punch, I used a larger screwdriver and went through the outer race. Once my screwdriver was through, I used vice grips on the screwdriver and twisted clockwise until it deformed the outer race, couple twists. (You can see it in my photo). It's the oil seal with the odd shape.

Once it's bowed, take out your screw driver and you have a much larger surface area to catch it. Good news is the lip that is exposed IS the outer race, so getting into it isn't hard. I was careful and caused no damage I could see or feel.

If you need the tools that worked for me, you can borrow them. I'll drop them off 😎

Excellent. Where did you get your rebuild kit (all the seals, etc) from?

Took my spare stock diff out of storage and for some reason felt the need to take it apart.
I need to send it out to be rebuilt as it feels and sounds something inside the carrier is loose and not right.

I have a 4.10 and want to try stock gearing, I lack the time and tools at the moment to take a stab at a rebuild on my own so I'll have to shell out for diffsonline to do it.

Also did my first oil change with an extrator, looks like it pulled ~5.25L, not bad!

Yea I did it myself. Learned to wrap my F80 at the start of the pandemic when everything was closed and business was slow. Haha. Pretty easy, hard part is dismantling the car.

When I got my e46 m3, I wrapped it Avery Dennison aqua blue which is closest to Porsche Miami blue. The color in person is closer to Miami blue than LSB.

thinking about doing a red color next…unless I can find an LSB color clone

Bought them on eBay, E46 steering rack seal kit. You'll only need to source the three bearings, the killer is the shipping. I spent probably double on shipping than I did on the actual bearings, in hindsight I should have ordered 3 of each and just sold them to you guys so no one has to eat shipping. To put it in perspective, one of the INA bearings was $16, I ended up paying $55 for shipping from China, thanks to increased trade costs. So dumb, but I wanted the genuine stuff, Ali Baba has aftermarket bearings if you want to go with those, I was going to but shipping was the same, so what's a $10 difference really.

Brought my car to WileMotorSport in Walpole MA to chase down some lean codes as well as install a CSL tube/dipstick.

Installed Karb race box. I had bought an extra ecu that supposedly had a stock CSL tune on it, evidently it doesn’t. So, I guess I’m going to let HTE work on the tune.
