Getting close to finishing the sideskirt extensions
Man do you have a dedicated thread to those underbelly pans? Nice work, would love to see more details. I have a soft spot for functional racecar fab work and that certainly looks like a cool project to me.

The Teflon seals are a bit nerve-wracking the first time, but all the help here on NAM3Forum and Beisan Systems helps a lot. I’m a sucker for nice precision parts, and damn that Beisan hub is nice.

The Beisan guide advocates using a genuine BMW timing bridge due to others not being precise enough. I got a Schwaben through turner and it has a small amount of slop. Is that going to be an issue?
I would use a BMW bridge, there is at least one story I know of where the aftermarket (Schwaben?) bridge was off enough to cause cams/valves to meet.

I actually don't because I always get too busy doing the work and don't ever think to document things

I feel like you’d have to really screw something up even with this bridge to get the timing several degrees off, but please correct me if I’m wrong. The Schwaben did match up with cams both before and after doing the Vanos job. No valve contact felt when turning the crank.

That said, for the price, the quality is not there. This exact kit can be found without a Schwaben sticker for half the price. Might try to exchange for a genuine BMW tool.

Oh yeah - both! This one's my daily beater and ski car.

PO did plates and I just ignored the problem. Cracks all closed up nicely when I put jacks on the subframe mounts though, so I've got it all welded up and reinforced from above now. Time to put it back in the snow

I ordered my set of genuine BMW tools from getbmwparts and I believe it came in less then the shwaben kit. Mind you I only got the bridge, crank pin and cam pin. You do get more tools for the price with the shwaben kit but the potential drop in quality is not worth it to me.

Update on the Schwaben timing bridge: after some thinking and handling the tool more it’s really not that wiggly where it counts, so I decided to trust it.

Engine runs perfect so there’s one positive data point on the Schwaben tool.

                                Where was it wiggly?

If VANOS test passes then you're good. Curious to see what your VANOS adaptations are too
